remember the clause SEASON
'Seeing Wilde’s work produced by a queer theater company truly allowed this great gay writer’s work to be truly celebrated – a veritably camp and enjoyable performance.'
Jamie Wareham- GAY STAR NEWS
On 24th May 1988 Margaret Thatcher’s conservative government implemented Section 28, a local authority clause set in UK Law that banned the right to “promote homosexuality or publish material with the intention of promoting homosexuality.” It also outlawed “the teaching in any maintained school of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship.”

This law was unwarranted, unacceptable and a shameful act by a government to try and discriminate against a minority of its own citizens. 20 years before this homosexuality had been decriminalised in the UK and this law was seen as an attempt to rescind that and take a huge step backwards in terms of equality. It shut down any positive representation of gay men and women in media, schools and public life at a time when discrimination was rife because of the association of gay people with the ongoing and worsening AIDS crisis.

All or Nothing Repertory Theatre Company's first season aimed to highlight the 30 year anniversary of this terrible law.
Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare which swapped genders and sexualities of characters. The law implemented by Angelo was Section 28 which saw Juliet imprisoned and Claudia set for a far worse fate as the punishment for breaking this law is the death penalty, still, to this day a consequence of being gay in 8 countries around the world.
As Is by William M Hoffman is a beautiful play in which two estranged lovers return to each other during the AIDS crisis in New York. They must rely on each other as their government and those around them do not support them.
The Importance of Being Earnest is a hilarious romp of mistaken identity and mishap which was written by the British Isles most celebrated wits. Oscar Wilde was a fabulous writer and dramatist but he was also gay. His government at the time arrested him for it and like many other famous LGBTQ figures in our history served prison time purely for who he loved.

We have come so far as a community in the last 30 years and we believe that the best way to make sure we never slip back into the mistakes of history is to remember how events transpired. All or Nothing Repertory Theatre Company will presented these works in order to educate, remind and warn against the interests of those who would seek to silence the voices of progress.
